Can CSR Lead Us Through Tough Times? by Stephen Jordan -  As we look back at 2008, we’ve seen three bubbles pop: housing, energy, and finance. We had an unusually heavy disaster year, with wildfires in southern California, floods in the Midwest, hurricanes affecting the Gulf Coast, and an earthquake and cyclone hitting China and Myanmar, respectively. We are also in the midst of an election year and an incipient recession. 
 

Small-Business Expo a Success in Ike-Affected Galveston, by Gerald McSwiggan - Friday, October 17 was a big day for the City of Galveston. The Galveston Chamber of Commerce hosted a recovery expo for local businesses to provide disaster-related information from all the relevant organizations.

 

Corporate Citizenship Awards Dinner to Focus on Service - The theme of BCLC's 9th annual Corporate Citizenship Awards Dinner on November 18th is "Service." BCLC is inviting returning military veterans, emergency responders, and the President’s Council on Service and Civic Engagement to join finalists, board members, and contributors as special guests at this year’s event.
