National Leaders Join BCLC for Awards Celebration

In my four years working on BCLC's annual Corporate Citizenship Awards Dinner, last week's proved to be the one that dazzled with the most star power and meaning. Under the theme of "Service," it truly was a celebration of business at its finest. In fact, it wasn't so much a dinner as it was a whole day, beginning with a tour of the White House East Wing for Awards finalists and sponsors. More >>

Study Examines Community Engagement and Competitiveness Factors

Contrary to what some commentators may say, businesses invest substantially in the competitiveness and quality of life of the local communities in which they operate. A 2007-2008 survey of business officials in the nation's 100-largest metro areas asked respondents which factors in their communities affect competitiveness. A later question asked what role the business sector has in influencing those factors.

Two aspects of competitiveness were examined: the ability of the company to recruit and retain quality employees, and the ability of the community to attract entrepreneurs and businesses. More >>


BCLC Working to Put Recovery at Heart of Disaster Response Process

"Change" is more than an election-year buzzword; it is what BCLC is working toward through its Disaster Assistance and Recovery program. BCLC has been promoting change in the disaster response process for years. Our focus is on speeding long-term recovery and embedding business partnerships into disaster aid and community preparedness systems.

Assessment Team Offers Experience and Advice for Hurricane Victims

Six weeks after Hurricane Ike, BCLC and the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) sent a team into the Galveston disaster area to perform a "Business Recovery Technical Assistance Site Visit."
