Transcript

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce applauds the House passage of the most significant trade vote of the decade, the trade agreement with the Dominican Republic and five countries in Central America. This agreement - CAFTA -  is all about jobs and opportunity for American farmers, workers, and companies. In fact, a U.S. Chamber study of CAFTA's impact on a dozen states projects it will create over 25,000 new jobs in its first year. Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic already represent the tenth largest market in the world for U.S. goods and services.  This agreement levels the playing field for American products- on day one- more than 80 percent of our exports can enter these markets duty free.  We praise lawmakers on both sides of the aisle for voting in the interests of democracy in the region and economic growth here at home.  This is a huge win for America.
