With the federal government having passed numerous Corona virus relief bills, there is naturally a fair amount of confusion about how to interpret and apply them. The expanded unemployment insurance (UI) benefits for displaced workers under the CARES Act are no exception. There is some basic information that workers and employers should know about UI.
Chamber proposes enhancements to Main Street Lending Facility and Other Programs to Boost Financial Stability WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today provided comments to the Treasury and the Federal Reserve commending the creation of lending facilities that will provide necessary liquidity to medium and large businesses. The Chamber also encouraged further work to continue restoring confidence to the business community and financial markets during the COVID-19 pandemic.
WASHINGTON, D.C.— The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today released a new guide to help independent contractors and self-employed individuals secure funding under the CARES Act.
The Paycheck Protection Program is helping some small businesses stay afloat, but more funding from Congress is needed now.
“Today’s tragic and staggering unemployment figures underscore the dire need for bridge funding to keep more Americans on the job and more businesses afloat during the coronavirus economic crisis. There is absolutely no excuse for failing to get these funds approved immediately. American small businesses, self-employed workers, and independent contractors need and expect the type of bipartisan cooperation that led to the CARES Act to solve this immediate crisis.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce issued new state specific unemployment data for all 50 states following the Labor Department’s release earlier today. The data of unemployment claims from March 14 to April 4 shows how each state has been impacted by the sudden economic downturn triggered by the coronavirus.
