U.S. Chamber addresses excessive punitive damages award

NCLC urged the Ninth Circuit to reverse or reduce an award of punitive damages that was nine times greater than the award for compensatory damages. NCLC warned that unless the circuit court sets and enforces limits on excessive punitive damages awards, the threat of crippling punitive damages will drive businesses out of the circuit and into states with more reasonable damages laws.
