Since its founding, Salesforce has harnessed the company’s culture of innovation to drive positive social impact through serving the interests of all its stakeholders – including the environment. Salesforce’s vision is for customers to use the entire Customer 360 Platform for environmental good. The company delivers a Carbon Neutral Cloud to all its customers and is more than halfway to reaching the its goal of 100% renewable energy by 2022. The compnay recently announced Salesforce Sustainability Cloud, a carbon accounting product designed to help customers easily generate trusted investor-grade environmental data to inform their climate action programs.

  • By 2022, achieve 100% renewable energy. Salesforce set two interim targets to address the climate impacts of its electricity use. The company reached the first target in 2017, by procuring carbon offsets for the emissions associated with electricity that the company could not avoid, reduce, or offset with renewable energy purchases.   • By 2020, expand internal price on carbon, offsetting 100% of business travel and employee commuting emissions.Decarbonizing the transportation sector is critical to combating climate change. Salesforce is expanding its Net-Zero and Carbon Neutral Cloud achievements to include business travel and employee commuting-related emissions to drive investments in transportation emissions reductions. By 2020, any business travel and employee commuting-related emissions that cannot be reduced will be offset.
  • By 2025, Salesforce suppliers to set emissions reduction targets.Salesforce is working with its vendors to set climate targets. As part of its commitment to science-based targets, by 2025, Salesforce will work with suppliers responsible for over half of its total supplier related emissions to set emissions reduction targets.
  • By 2022, $10 million to invest in climate entrepreneurs and startups.The Salesforce Impact Fund was launched in 2017 to catalyze the growth of companies that are building products and solutions to benefit society. Over the next three years, Salesforce will invest $10 million in climate entrepreneurs and startups building on the Salesforce platform and creating better access to clean energy, improving resource efficiency, and increasing supply chain performance.
  • Salesforce Sustainability Cloud. In September, Salesforce announced the Sustainability Cloud, a carbon accounting product that enables businesses to quickly track, analyze, and report reliable environmental data to help them reduce their carbon emissions. With the Salesforce Sustainability Cloud, businesses now have a trusted sustainability platform that gives them a 360-degree view of their environmental impact and provides data-driven insights to make changes the planet will notice.
  • After 2020, all major, new Salesforce office interiors will align with LEED Platinum v4 standards and pursue net-zero carbon certification.Salesforce has already achieved or is pursuing green building certification for 65% of its global office spaces. Salesforce plans for all new major office spaces established after 2020 to align with LEED Platinum v4 standards and pursue net-zero carbon building certification through a focus on energy efficiency, impactful renewable energy procurement, and the embodied carbon of building materials. Best practices of the Salesforce Tower in San Francisco influence the Ohana Design Standard, and surpasses LEED energy performance requirements by 35%.
