The U.S. Chamber of Commerce brought its largest-ever delegation to COP27 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, and had a successful engagement with numerous events. Below are some of the highlights:

Kerry Keynotes Business COP27 Gala

The U.S. Chamber and AmCham Egypt hosted one of the business community’s premier COP27 gatherings Saturday night in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. The event was focused on the partnership between government and the private sector to forge climate solutions in Egypt and beyond. Pictured is Marty Durbin, Senior Vice President of Policy at the Chamber, U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry, and Kerry, Durbin and Am Chamber Egypt leaders with Brian Deese, Director of the National Economic Council, who also addressed the gathering.

Decarbonization Day: A Focus on Methane

As part of Decarbonization Day on November 11th, several events convened policymakers and business leaders to discuss the various policy and technology solutions aimed at decarbonizing the economy. Notably, the panel on "Advancing the Global Methane Pledge" featured CEOs from Baker Hughes and Total Energies. The U.S. Chamber and Amcham Egypt released a statement in support of the Global Methane Pledge that day as well.

In keeping with the day’s theme, EPA released a supplemental proposed rule to regulate methane emissions from the oil and gas sector. Our statement on this action can be found here.

Accelerating Transportation Solutions in the U.S. and Around the World

The U.S. Chamber hosted “Moving Toward Zero: Accelerating Transportation Solutions in the U.S. and Around the World,” which discussed how business leadership and technology innovation coupled with practical, durable policies are critical to decarbonizing the transportation sector.

The event included a conversation with White House National Climate Advisor Ali Zaidi and a panel discussion moderated by Marty Durbin featuring representatives from PepsiCo, UPS, United Airlines, General Motors and Google.

Building Bridges on Climate at COP27

The U.S. Chamber joined the American Conservation Coalition, Atlantic Council, The Nature Conservancy and Dream.org to host the Building Bridges on Climate Summit at COP27. This event convened business, NGO, and government leaders from around the world, representing a variety of perspectives related to energy security and the clean energy transition.

Advancing Climate Innovation

The U.S. Chamber’s Dan Byers joined small business leaders and financial sector experts at an innovation-focused event hosted by the Green Climate Fund. The discussion focused on unlocking public and private investment aimed at accelerating the technology development necessary to scale climate solutions around the world.
