Kiersten Flint, senior vice president of corporate social responsibility and internal communications at Caesars Entertainment, Inc., led a conversation about Caesar’s anti-human trafficking program with Dr. Halleh Seddighzadeh, a human trafficking expert adviser; Eric Golebiewski, vice president of corporate security at Caesars; and Barbara Buckley, executive director of the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada.
Caesars works with Dr. Seddighzadeh to design internal counter-human trafficking initiatives and evaluate trafficking interventions. She emphasized that the hospitality sector is in a unique position. “From hotel staff to corporate teams and owners to operators, each plays a critical role in identifying, preventing, and responding to trafficking incidences.”
Golebiewski told the audience that Caesars is committed to training its security officials to identify potential indicators of human trafficking, especially sex trafficking. Once a trafficking survivor has been identified, Caesars refers the individual to the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada for legal assistance.
Buckley said that the Legal Aid Center provides free legal services to victims and seals their criminal records if they have been convicted of a crime, saying, “Employers are more likely to hire an individual if they have a clean slate and for human trafficking survivors, obtaining employment is a critical piece of getting back on their feet.”
Caesars also contributes funding to the Legal Aid’s Center of Southern Nevada’s Resiliency & Justice Center, which provides wraparound services, including mental health, along with housing and legal assistance to survivors of trafficking and other violent crimes.
