Heath Knakmuhs, Vice President and Policy Counsel at the U.S. Chamber’s Global Energy Institute, made the following statement following action by the Federal Regulatory Energy Commission (FERC) to finalize reforms to the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act (PURPA):
“We applaud FERC’s action today to finalize long-overdue reforms to PURPA. These common-sense reforms will save consumers money while facilitating the cost effective and fair integration of renewable energy resources into the nation’s power grid. FERC’s thoughtful modernization of its PURPA regulations, after more than 40 years, should significantly reduce the instances where PURPA has been used to require utilities to purchase more power than they actually need at above market costs.”
