To the Members of the U.S. House of Representatives:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports the passage of S.J.Res. 9 and S.J.Res. 24 that would disapprove two United States Fish and Wildlife Service regulations regarding the designation of "Lesser Prairie-Chicken and Northern Long-Eared Bat." The Chamber will consider including votes on these resolutions in our How They Voted Congressional scorecard.
The Endangered Species Act (ESA) seeks to protect and recover imperiled species and the ecosystems they depend on. The Chamber supports these objectives as well as many other private and public initiatives to help improve wildlife conservation. But too often, the ESA is being used as a tool to deter development of vital infrastructure and green energy projects. The listings of the Lesser Prairie-Chicken and Northern Long-Eared Bat will result in increased ESA permitting requirements across vast swaths of the country that could cause these projects to be significantly delayed or even cancelled. These listings will do little but cause unnecessary uncertainty without any clear objectives for species preservation.
The Chamber urges you to support both S.J. Res 9 and S.J. Res 24.
Sincerely,
Evan Jenkins
