On some of the most important bills Congress voted on last year, more than 300 lawmakers from both sides of the aisle consistently voted in favor of legislation that would stimulate economic growth and help American businesses create jobs.
Seven of them did it every single time.
Sen. Johnny Isakson (GA), Sen. Mike Rounds (SD), Sen. Lamar Alexander (TN), Rep. Michael Simpson (ID-2), Rep. Fred Upton (MI-6), Rep. Elise Stefanik (NY-21), and Rep. Michael Turner (OH-10) each earned a perfect score on the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s How They Voted scorecard during 2018. They were among 318 lawmakers who earned the Chamber’s Spirit of Enterprise award for their record during the second session of the 115th Congress.
“Every day, all across the country, America’s business owners and job creators serve their communities and strengthen their economies,” U.S. Chamber President and CEO Tom Donohue said. “We commend those leaders in Washington who recognize the vital role these businesses play and support them through commonsense, growth-oriented policy.”
Alexander, Rounds, and Isakson voted to support business on all 10 of the critical Senate votes scored by the Chamber last year, while Turner, Stefanik, Simpson, and Upton backed business on 12 key House votes. Among the legislation scored were bills related to access to capital for small business, ensuring our workforce has the skills necessary for the jobs of tomorrow, and helping American manufacturers compete in a global economy. In addition, votes in support of building the U.S. water infrastructure system, protecting intellectual property, and updating energy policy were taken into account.
Members who supported the U.S. Chamber’s position on at least 70% of those votes qualify to receive the Spirit of Enterprise award.
“By advancing good legislation, these members of Congress are helping businesses grow and thrive, keeping our economy strong, and promoting the free enterprise system that drives opportunity and prosperity,” Donohue said.
We thank all 318 lawmakers for consistently backing America’s job creators – especially those who recorded perfect scores – and we look forward to working with them to advance the most important legislative priorities of 2019, including passing an infrastructure investment package, reforming our broken immigration system, and approving the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA).
