TO THE MEMBERS OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports S. 1982, the “Save Our Seas 2.0 Act, important, bipartisan legislation intended to provide solutions to marine debris and plastic waste challenges. The Chamber will consider including votes related to this legislation in our annual “How They Voted” scorecard.
The Save Our Seas 2.0 Act would establish a Marine Debris Foundation, a genius prize for innovation, and new research to promote innovation. It would also catalyze U.S. policy on international cooperation to deal with marine debris, U.S. federal interagency bilateral and multilateral outreach, and lay the foundation for a new international marine debris agreement.
In addition, the bill would foster domestic recycling and improve solid waste infrastructure to prevent marine debris before it occurs through new grants and studies on waste management and mitigation.
The Chamber strongly supports this legislation.
Sincerely,
Jack Howard
