TO THE MEMBERS OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce strongly supports H.R. 7575, the “Water Resources Development Act of 2020.” This bipartisan bill would authorize much needed water projects, including navigation, flood risk management, recreation, and associated environmental infrastructure. The Chamber will consider including votes related to this legislation in our “How They Voted” congressional scorecard.
The Chamber applauds the inclusion of 34 new project authorizations, additional provisions to ensure modern, resilient infrastructure, improvements in water supply delivery, and increased investment from the Harbor Maintenance Trust Fund, a longtime priority of the business community.
Reauthorizing these Army Corps of Engineer programs prior to their September 30 expiration would provide the certainty of federal commitment needed to allow state, local, and private partners to move forward with needed planning and construction. These important water projects would ensure long-term, sustainable, and resilient economic and environmental benefits for both rural and urban regions.
We applaud the bipartisan leadership of the House sponsors, Reps. Peter DeFazio, Sam Graves, Grace Napolitano, and Bruce Westerman. The Chamber urges passage of this important bill.
