WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Chamber of Commerce Executive Vice President and CEO of the Global Innovation Policy Center, David Hirschmann, issued the following statement today on Shira Perlmutter’s appointment as the 14th Register of Copyrights.
“The U.S. Chamber congratulates Shira Perlmutter on her appointment as the 14th Register of Copyrights. Ms. Perlmutter brings extensive experience and expertise to this position, and we commend Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden for selecting Ms. Perlmutter for this important role.
“The Copyright Office is critically important to the $1.3 trillion sector of the economy that relies on effective copyright protection and enforcement. Ms. Perlmutter’s understanding of copyright law and past experience working in the U.S. Copyright Office and United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), will serve her and the Copyright Office customers well.
“The Chamber pledges its support for the new Register in moving forward with modernization of Copyright Office systems to better serve its customers.
