DUBAI; February 26, 2020– Today, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Global Innovation Policy Center (GIPC) honored the Emirates IP Association (EIPA) with the firstGlobal IP Championaward of 2020 at the 25th annual Dubai Pharmaceutical & Technologies Conference & Exhibition (DUPHAT). EIPA is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to raising awareness of intellectual property in the UAE. At the event, GIPC also presented findings of the U.S. Chamber 2020 International IP Index, “Art of the Possible.” The event took place at the Dubai International Convention Centre and brought together industry leaders from the U.S. and MENA region to discuss pharmaceutical manufacturing, research and development, and logistics.

Speaking to the importance of the Middle East/North Africa region for innovative companies, Patrick Kilbride, Senior Vice President of the GIPC, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, noted that “Since our Index began in 2012, we have sought to expand our understanding of intellectual property in the MENA region—including the addition of Kuwait this year. Across the board, these economies provide for a basic IP system and work hard to promote public awareness of IP. Though there’s still work to be done, thanks to engaged stakeholders, the overall trajectory is positive.”

TheGlobal IP Championawards recognize members of the IP community who have advanced reforms to foster and protect innovation and creativity in their communities and around the world. In presenting the award, Mr. Kilbride noted EIPA’s success in building bridges between the public and private sectors as well as its highly regarded training and best practice programs in the UAE.

Accepting the award on behalf of the Emirates IP Association, Major General Dr. Abdel Quddous Al-Obaidli and Colonel Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Muainistated, “We are honored to receive this recognition as we further our mission in making the UAE among the best countries in the world for intellectual property protection.
