WASHINGTON, D.C.— Earlier this year the Government of Japan announced that U.S. Chamber President and CEO Thomas J. Donohue would be conferred with its Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun Imperial Decoration for his work to strengthen the trade relationship between the United States and Japan. Japanese Ambassador to the United States Shinsuke J. Sugiyama presented Donohue with the decoration last week during a ceremony at his residence in Washington, D.C.
“I’ve been fortunate to play a small role in strengthening one of the most important strategic and economic relationships in the world – the one between the United States of America and Japan,” said Donohue. “We have complimentary interests in finding peaceful and mutually beneficial ways of addressing the complex issues facing the Asia-Pacific region. There are difficult challenges, to be sure, but none of them can be resolved without the United States and Japan working together.”
