The U.S.-Canada Business Initiative builds on the Chamber’s U.S.-Mexico Economic Council and longstanding advocacy on USMCA by providing a platform for companies to engage on the U.S.-Canada economic partnership and North American competitiveness issues. The initiative will leverage the Chamber’s strong relationships with key Canadian stakeholders to advance policies that strengthen regional competitiveness, bilateral trade, and Canada’s business environment. Members will have the opportunity to shape the initiative’s advocacy agenda, contribute to policy recommendations, and participate in dialogues with senior government officials at the federal and provincial levels in Canada.

In 2023, the Chamber led a private sector delegation to the North American Leaders Summit (NALS) for meetings with trade/economy and foreign ministers; held meetings with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Cabinet officials to emphasize the importance of full USMCA implementation for regional competitiveness; and carried out advocacy on a wide range of policies that impacted U.S. businesses, including the digital economy, digital services tax, competition policy, among others.

The Initiative’s agenda is focused on North American competitiveness (including critical minerals and workforce issues), USMCA implementation, Canada’s innovation agenda and digital policies, among other issues to be identified in partnership with members.
