The U.S.-UK Business Council is the premier Washington-based business organization dedicated to strengthening the commercial relationship between the U.S. and the UK.

The United States and the United Kingdom stand as each other's strongest allies, nurturing a special bond cultivated over centuries. This alliance is underpinned by shared values, mutual strategic interests, and a commitment to cooperation across a multitude of sectors. The strength of this partnership is mirrored in the economic sphere, where the two nations support over 2.5 million jobs collectively, engage in two-way foreign direct investment totaling $1.8 trillion, and exchange goods and services worth $300 billion every year.

The Council’s mission is to promote a mutually beneficial economic relationship at the highest levels of business and government via advocacy, engagement, and communications. The Council creates a unique platform for companies to engage with senior policymakers from the UK and U.S. governments as the UK develops its regulatory and trade policy agenda and the partnership between our two countries, as well as with the EU, evolves.

Our Objectives

  • Promote policies and regulations that foster business opportunities, generating prosperity and jobs.
  • Advocate for a U.S.-UK free trade agreement, digital trade agreement, an expanded critical minerals agreement, and sustained congressional support to enhance bilateral trade and investment.
  • Maintain strong U.S.-UK cooperation on international issues, emphasizing robust supply chains in critical sectors and scrutinizing UK outbound investment screening.
  • Drive meaningful outcomes from state-level MOUs and expand engagements to strengthen U.S.-UK economic ties at the subnational level.
  • Secure legislative successes in key areas such as digital markets, financial services, life sciences, energy, and sustainability to support the UK government’s trade and regulatory agenda.
  • Support trade negotiations, particularly with India, and press for effective implementation of the Windsor Framework and EU Retained Law legislation.

We are uniquely positioned to advance U.S. – UK business interests via advocacy, access, thought leadership, and communication with senior policymakers and leaders.

  • Advocacy: We advance members’ interests by engaging with the UK as it formulates new trade and regulatory policies and on ever-close U.S.-UK trade and investment ties.
  • Private Roundtables: We convene off-the-record meetings for members to discuss policy impacts and raise specific commercial issues with key UK, U.S., and EU policymakers.
  • Delegations to the UK: We lead high-profile member delegations to the UK to meet with senior policymakers on a range of issues, including trade, regulation, tax, energy, sustainability, the digital economy, and innovation.
  • Flagship Events: These events convene U.S. and UK business leaders and policymakers for thoughtful conversations about challenges and opportunities.
  • Working Groups: We pursue concentrated work on sector-specific priorities such as the digital economy, life sciences, and energy and sustainability.
