WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Chamber of Commerce today welcomed OMB Guidance directing all federal regulatory agencies on compliance with the Congressional Review Act (CRA).

“Over the past two years, the relief provided by the Trump administration from the red tape that was strangling our economy has helped spur economic growth and led to record low unemployment. In one of their most important moves to date, the administration’s new directive will ensure that agencies cannot skirt regulatory requirements by issuing guidance documents and regulatory actions by independent agencies receive proper scrutiny,” said Neil Bradley, executive vice president and chief policy officer. “This action will help ensure that regulations and policies are subjected to rigorous, transparent analysis.”

According to the Chamber, in the past, agencies have used “guidance documents” to impose significant costs on the economy without going through the rulemaking process and some of the most costly regulations came from independent agencies.

Bradley added, “We applaud acting OMB Director Vought for taking bold action to reform the regulatory system.”
