Dear Chairman Durbin and Ranking Member Grassley:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce supports the nomination of Ur Mendoza Jaddou to be the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Given her prior experience at USCIS, Ms. Jaddou is strongly qualified to serve as the agency’s director.
From 2014 to 2017, Ms. Jaddou served as the Chief Counsel for USCIS. As the individual responsible for managing all legal matters pertaining to the agency, she was charged with coordinating the efforts of roughly 300 staff attorneys within USCIS. In this role, her duties required her to work and collaborate with not only with the senior leadership within USCIS, but also the leadership of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, other executive branch departments, the White House, and Congress. Prior to her time at USCIS, she served as a Deputy Assistant Secretary for the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Legislative Affairs. She has also served as the Chief Counsel on the House Judiciary Committee’s Immigration Subcommittee.
Ms. Jaddou has significant experience working on immigration policy and she is very familiar with the operations of USCIS. Ms. Jaddou’s knowledge and experience would be indispensable in providing the critical leadership needed to stabilize the agency’s financial challenges, reduce its significant processing backlogs, and provide stakeholders with more consistency throughout the various adjudications processes it conducts every day. Throughout Ms. Jaddou’s public service, she has shown a keen understanding of how USCIS operations affect businesses across various industries. The Chamber is confident that she would continue to consider the views of the American business community on the issues that are critically important to the ability of many companies to meet their current and future workforce needs.
The Chamber believes that Ms. Jaddou would serve the public well as the Director of USCIS. We thank the Committee for scheduling her May 26 hearing.
