The Fourth of July is a time to commemorate our nation’s independence, reflect on the many freedoms we have as Americans, and enjoy backyard barbecues, fireworks, and time with family and friends.

Ahead of the July Fourth holiday, we spoke to Flags of Valor co-founder Brian Steorts about his business, their emphasis on veteran hiring, and the contributions of veteran-owned companies.

How did Flags of Valor begin? What is the mission?

Flags of Valor was founded by another combat veteran and me, who wanted to create a business that could provide meaningful employment to fellow veterans while honoring the service and sacrifice of military personnel and creating patriotic American-made goods.

The company’s mission is to provide high-quality, American-made products while supporting veterans through employment, outreach, and charitable giving.

What does the July Fourth holiday mean to Flags of Valor?

For Flags of Valor, the Fourth of July is a day of celebration and reflection. It represents the core values of freedom, patriotism, and the enduring spirit of the American people. It’s America’s birthday and should be celebrated, recognized, and honored.

How does Flags of Valor support veterans?

Flags of Valor supports veterans in several ways. The company prioritizes hiring veterans and military spouses by providing them with meaningful work and a supportive community. Flags of Valor actively participates in veteran outreach programs and advocates for veteran-related issues. We also engage in charitable giving by donating a portion of the company’s profits to veteran-related charities and organizations that provide support and resources to veterans and their families.

This Fourth of July, how can Americans support veterans and veteran-owned companies like yours?

You can support veterans this Fourth of July by purchasing veteran-made products from businesses like Flags of Valor and donating to organizations that aid and support veterans and their families. Additionally, people can attend community events and ceremonies that honor veterans, spread awareness about veteran issues, and advocate for policies that support veterans.

What is the significance of buying American-made products and supporting small U.S. companies?

Buying domestically produced goods helps create jobs and supports other local businesses in the supply chain. We have hundreds of small American businesses we buy supplies and material from that we use every day in our products and packaging. Buying American-made products also lessens the environmental impact by reducing the carbon footprint associated with shipping goods from overseas. Supporting American manufacturers helps ensure that workers are treated fairly and paid a great wage.

What is the process behind making your hand-crafted wooden flags?

The process of making hand-crafted wooden flags at Flags of Valor involves several steps:

  1. High-quality American hardwoods are chosen for their durability and aesthetic appeal.
  2. The wood is cut to size and meticulously sanded to ensure a smooth surface.
  3. The wood is then hand-painted and stained to create the design of the flag, with attention to detail to ensure each stripe and star is precise.
  4. The pieces are carefully assembled to form the final flag.
  5. Each flag is inspected for quality, and final touches are added to ensure it meets the company’s high standards.
  6. The finished product is packaged with care to ensure it arrives safely to customers.
