To Members of the United States Senate:

As the U.S. Senate considers the nomination of Kenneth Kies to be Assistant Secretary for Tax Policy at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce offers the following observations. As demonstrated during his confirmation hearing, Mr. Kies is eminently qualified to lead the Department’s Office of Tax Policy in developing, recommending, and implementing federal tax policy. We urge quick consideration by the full Senate of Mr. Kies’s nomination and look forward to working with him upon his confirmation.

Mr. Kies has devoted his entire professional career to the practice of federal tax policy and law, serving with distinction in both the public and private sectors. His experience spans nearly every subtitle and chapter of the Internal Revenue Code and he’s been involved in every significant piece of federal tax legislation since 1981. Most notably, Mr. Kies’s prior service as Chief Republican Tax Counsel to the House Committee on Ways and Means, and more recently as Chief of Staff of the nonpartisan Joint Committee on Taxation, make him uniquely well-qualified to assist Congress in extending key provisions of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.

The Chamber looks forward to working with the Senate and Mr. Kies to restore and extend critical pro-growth tax policies that will improve the lives of all Americans. Thank you for considering his nomination.

Sincerely,
Neil L. Bradley
Executive Vice President, Chief Policy Officer, and Head of Strategic Advocacy
