TO THE MEMBERS OF THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES:
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce opposes adoption of H. Res. 294. It makes in order H.R. 1644, which would establish government control over the Internet, and H.R. 2021, which would set discretionary spending caps at unreasonably high levels and do nothing to restrain entitlement programs.
The Chamber prefers the FY 2020 Budget Resolution reported by the Senate Budget Committee, introduced by Chairman Mike Enzi. It represents a reasonable approach to avoiding sequestration cuts by allowing for needed discretionary and defense spending increases. It also provides for urgent federal investments in infrastructure and, more important, takes first steps towards tackling runaway entitlement programs.
The Chamber looks forward to working with the House and Senate on bipartisan legislation to avoid sequestration, address the deficit and entitlements, and target infrastructure investment.
Sincerely,
Neil L. Bradley
