To the Members of the United States Senate:
As the U.S. Senate considers the nomination of Mr. Michael Kratsios to be the Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), the U.S. Chamber of Commerce offers the following observations. As demonstrated during his confirmation hearing and previous leadership as OSTP’s Chief Technology Officer, Mr. Kratsios is a highly qualified nominee whose deep expertise and vision will ensure the United States remains the global leader in technological innovation. We urge quick consideration by the full Senate of Mr. Kratsios’ nomination and look forward to working with him upon his confirmation.
In his confirmation hearing, Mr. Kratsios demonstrated a commitment to American leadership in fundamental technologies such as artificial intelligence, quantum computing, robotics, and advanced communications. He has embraced the same view stated by Vice President Vance at the Paris AI summit that the private sector must lead through opportunity. We strongly agree with Mr. Kratsios’ view that in order to maintain U.S. tech leadership we must “double down on what has made our history of innovation great: the uniquely free-market approach to scientific discovery, which harnesses the combined strengths of government, industry, and academia.”[1]
We look forward to working with the Senate and Mr. Kratsios to advance American leadership in science and technology.
