As part of its ongoing leadership in addressing the nation’s workforce shortage, the U.S. Chamber convened a bipartisan panel of lawmakers to discuss policy solutions on second chance hiring.
During the conversation, U.S. Representatives Danny Davis (D-IL) and Carol Miller (R-WV) outlined the policy landscape to bridge the gap between incarceration and employment.
The discussion also focused on the Second Chance Reauthorization Act (H.R.8028), sponsored by Rep. Miller and supported by Rep. Davis, and the opportunities for employers interested in exploring historically overlooked talent pools.
During the conversation, Rep. Davis outlined how programs help to reduce recidivism and offer hope and help for the formerly incarcerated.
“Creating an environment of hope and possibility changes the way we think about things,” said Rep. Davis. “The Second Chance Act developed programmatic help for individuals.”
